Hearts at Home conference

Image
I am going to the above  conference next month and I can't wait. :)  One of the speakers I am really looking forward to hearing is Michelle Dugger.  One of the things she will be speaking about is purposefully talking in a soft voice. No yelling, no raising her voice to her children, etc. I lack in that area. I am hoping to get some tips in the area of having a meek and quiet spirit. I tend to overreact to things at times and it comes out in frustration in my words. I want to know if she is naturally like this or did she have to train herself to speak with this soft voice. I am hoping it's trained. I am not naturally meek and quiet and seem to struggle with this so much. I hope I can learn this and do it.  Last night on their show, she said she "chooses" to speak with a soft voice. That gave me hope. Because if it is a choice and doesn't come naturally for everyone, I can make that choice. I just need some practical tips. ...

Wives, let your husband lead!

Image
I am sure we have all been guilty of it at one time or another, but it seems to have become an epidemic.  I  have seen so many women treat their husband as if they were stupid, lower than them, just there for a paycheck, or treating as if they were one of their children.  I have seen t-shirts worn that say "I'm the boss because my wife lets me be" or "Mommy's the boss because daddy let her be"  I saw both of those t-shirts this weekend.  I was a little shocked to see those. We women are not to be the leaders of our home.  That is not how God directed it.  He put our husband in charge to be head of the house and to be the leader of the home.  He did not put us wives to be bosses of our husbands.  He created us to be helpmeets, to help our husband run our household, to be his support, and to respect him.  I have witnessed wives undermining their husband in front of others such as with disciplining children. The husband will say one th...

Take time to be still...

Image
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;    I will be exalted among the nations,    I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 Too often we allow the voices of the world to distract us and keep us off focus of the things that truly matter. We need to be aware of that with all the busyness and comforts that we have today we can easily crowd out God's voice. We need to away from those things that can distract and carve out time to just be quiet and still. (yes, even with a busy schedule or a full household!) If we constantly have noise all around us or are busy doing, doing, doing, we can lose something very precious a treasure that was meant for us alone. Go ahead--turn off the music, the TV, the computer... Drown out all the voices, the heartache, the pain Embrace and cherish the time you get with Him. Speak to the Lord and lift up your fears. Meditate on His Word. Connect with Him. Let Him comfort you and reach the deepest pla...

Meekness or weakness...

This post comes from Biblical Counseling for Women.  I found it to be just what I needed today and wanted to share it with you.  If you haven't visited her site yet, get over there! :)  You can get to it on my sidebar under "blogs I follow" "Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am meek and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:29. Meekness is often misunderstood as weakness. It is represented as being something women do not want to "be" because those who portray meekness do so poorly. A meek woman is actually very strong, and knows what she is about. She understands her position in Christ and her place in the Body. Meekness is strength under the submitted control of the Holy Spirit. I find meekness to be lacking in many women these days. We seem to have become argumentative, spiteful, and vengeful. Many women are this way in the home and workplace and even in the church. We tend to show o...

Falling, but not staying down...

I have been working on having a meek and quiet spirit. I feel like I am failing some.  I feel like I can't get it right.  I try.  I do. But, when it comes down to an opportunity to practice it, I fail more times than I succeed.  I will say that I am aware of such and I am thankful for that because now I can try harder when the next opportunity comes. I just feel like I have anger or sadness brewing inside me.  I think it's probably from a lot of stress that has occurred already this year.  I was hurt by my mom when she said bye to our relationship and that it was my loss, finances are a bit tight right now, feeling out of sorts with how well I'm doing at being a good wife, etc.  I feel like satan has been whispering so much evil in my ear and it's driving me crazy! I know, I know.  I need to give all that stress over to Him.  I do, but then I pick it up again. ;)  The blessing of this blog is that I can write it out and that helps me...

"I Am Woman Hear Me Roar"--The Feminist's Battlecry

Image
This post is from "A Wise Woman Builds Her Home" and I wanted to share it with you.... Not long ago I taught a woman's Bible study on the topic of Deception and Discernment and wanted to share a bit of that with you: One of the most infamous and well-known quotes of the century for woman: "I am woman, hear me roar!" The world has colorfully painted a picture of what women should look like in today's world. Images are splashed upon the trendy magazines with pictures of women in suits, holding briefcases in heels, dropping off their wee ones to daycare before the stop off at Starbucks for their daily hit of java. Celebrity magazines have their starlets portrayed as loud, scantily clad seductresses with instructional articles encouraging us how to dress and be like them--and who can ignore the mommy magazines that are shouting from the rooftops about how we can have it all. But I am here to share with you that this is not true. It is lies. It...

Meekness...

Image
In my quest for meekness I came across this writing: "The meek man is like a ship that rides at anchor, movetur, sed non amovetur --"is moved, but not removed" The storm moves it (the meek man is not a stock or stone under provocation), but does not remove it from its port. It is a grace that in reference to the temptations of affront and injury quenches the fiery darts of the wicked (as faith in reference to temptation in general). It is armor of proof against the spiteful and envenomed arrows of provocation, and is an impregnable wall to secure the peace of the soul there, where "thief cannot break through and steal," while the angry man lays all his comforts at the mercy of every wasp that will strike him. ----Matthew Henry There is nothing more beautiful to witness than a meek spirit. Meekness and gentleness stands out in a world today that rewards pride and ostentatiousness. Women are no longer gentle and quiet but instead are loud, rude and...
